CAIRO – 17 May 2026: Egypt strongly condemned the drone attack targeting the United Arab Emirates, which caused a fire in an electrical generator located outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry described the attack as a dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of the UAE sovereignty and international law.
Egypt reiterated its full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates, stressing its firm and unwavering position that the security of the UAE and the Gulf states is an integral part of Egypt’s national security.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office announced that authorities responded to a fire that broke out in an electrical generator outside the plant’s inner perimeter in Al-Dhafra Region following a drone strike. It confirmed that no injuries were reported and that radiological safety levels remained unaffected.
The statement added that all necessary precautionary measures had been taken and that further updates would be provided as they become available.
Meanwhile, the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation confirmed that the incident did not affect the safety of the power plant or the operational readiness of its essential systems, noting that all units continue to operate normally.
